When getting adjusted, you might hear a "popping" sound---but rest assured, it is completely safe!
Between each vertebrae are spinal discs. The area where the vertebrae and the discs meet, a joint is formed. When getting adjusted, the misaligned vertebrae are being moved back into their correct position. When this happens, a gas is released from the vertebral joint. The release of this gas is what causes the "popping" sound.
This sound is just like if you crack your knuckles or if any other joint in your body "cracks", like a wrist, knee, or ankle.
Just know that this sound is completely harmless and no bones are breaking. On the contrary, relish in the fact that if this sound occurs, you know that the vertebrae are being put back into place and you are one day closer to feeling better!
