For decades, doctors have told us that our health is directly linked with the sleeping habit. It is when you sleep that your body as well as your mind get to rest and you are able to recuperate enough to work through another day. Whether you are an IT professional or a construction worker, it does not matter whether your work involves pushing files or ploughing the grass, sleep is essential to your health. In fact, even the way that we sleep affects our health and decides how we feel when we wake up.
Make some simple changes in your sleeping habits to get healthier!
We all have that one preferred sleeping position that we find the most comfortable. Some of us sleep flat on our back, while some of us are just all over the place, tossing and turning. Your body needs to lie in a relaxed position, so always try and sleep on a soft yet firm bed. Couches are going to kill your back and neck because you need a flat and even surface that does not disturb the natural shape of your body. Sleeping with your head on the armrest of the couch can cause severe neck pain. It may take some practice, but if you have a poor sleeping position it will only cause you problems, and is something that you need to correct. A chiropractor can help you find a sleeping position that is not only safe for your body, but comfortable for you as well.
Sleeping on your side is the recommended sleeping position. Putting a pillow between the knees will help take pressure off the hips and low back and help support the knees. The next recommended sleep position is on your back. If sleeping on your back, place a pillow behind your knees, which helps maintain proper alignment of the low back.
The shape and size of your head pillow is also crucial. We always recommend that your pillow should be soft but not too thick. Your head only needs to be slightly elevated and using multiple pillow is going to cause you to wake up with a stiff neck day after day.
Sleeping on your stomach causes an unnatural curvacture to your low back and neck and will cause you to wake up with pain.
