Neck pain is one of the most frequent complaints among our patients. This pain can result in other symptoms such as headaches and muscle spasms, and may even disrupt sleep. You may find yourself in need of neck pain treatment after suffering from one or more of the following conditions.

Neck Injury

Whiplash is a common type of neck injury that occurs whenever the head and neck are suddenly thrust in one direction. Automobile accident victims often experience whiplash, but the condition can also happen from riding roller coasters or engaging in extreme sports. Neck injuries are common among athletes who participate in contact sports such as football.

Disc Disorders

Two disc disorders that frequently affect the spine may also lead to neck pain. The first is degenerative disc disease, a condition in which discs begin to deteriorate as a part of the aging process. The second is a herniated disc, which is caused by the outer covering of the disc rupturing or breaking open. This leaves the soft inner lining of the disc unprotected, allowing inflammation and irritation to set in. Herniated discs may also place undue pressure on the nerves in your neck and spinal column, leading to a great deal of discomfort.

Miscellaneous Conditions

Finally, neck pain can be caused by one of many other medical disorders, including:

  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Meningitis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Tumors in the neck or throat area
  • Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)

Regardless of the reason for your neck pain, chiropractic treatment can be a very effective method of managing it so that you can better carry on with daily activities. To schedule an appointment at our Lexington, KY clinic, please contact us.
