Your neck begins at the base of your skull and has seven small vertebrae that support the weight of your head. The ability to rotate your neck in so many directions with around 11 pounds of weight on it makes it very easy to injure over time. Neck pain can also originate from a problem with the lower, middle, or upper part of your back.

With the rapid growth of technology in the everyday household, there is a whole new set of possible causes for neck pain. Many people use their electronic devices for several hours a day, whether at work, while out in town, or when lounging around at home. Computer use can often lead to bad posture. Your back and shoulders pull forward as you extend your arms and type, which pulls on your neck. With cellphones, tablets, and gaming devices, people are typically looking down near their lap. This puts an immense amount of strain directly on your neck and can cause a lot of pain.

Traditional causes for neck pain (auto accidents, work injury, yard work, sleeping wrong, and exercise) are now accompanied by the use of electronic devices. With all of these factors coming into play, it is likely that you or a loved one will need to get neck pain treatment at some point in life.
