Throughout history parents have been telling their children not to slouch. However, the lesson hasn't been sticking, as maintaining proper posture remains a problem for the majority of people.

You may wonder if your poor posture is really a big deal, but posture problems can lead to chronic aches and pains, constipation, and make stress and depression symptoms worse.

The truth is, when it comes to misaligned posture, slouching is the least of our worries. There are many causes of poor posture and a lot of them take place during your work day.

If you work on a computer during the day, chances are you spend a lot of time looking down at a screen, hunched over. You are maintaining this bad posture for multiple hours every work day, and that means that some of your muscles are being shortened over time while others are being lengthened, making your posture more difficult to correct over time.

Even if you don't work at a desk, sitting for prolonged periods of time can lead to bad posture, so it is important to get up and take breaks where you walk around. Bad static posture, can lead to bad dynamic posture. Which means that you are more likely to injure yourself while you are exercising or participating in activities you enjoy.

You can make adjustments to your work environment, lifting your computer screen so that are looking up at it instead of down. You can also work on strengthening your core muscles which will give you the strength and muscle control you need to maintain correct posture.

Just being aware of your posture is a great first step. Set alarms on your phone to remind you to check and adjust your posture.

Please contact us if you would like help analyzing your posture and the repetitive motions in your day that could be causing your posture problems. We can help you realign the muscles that have been impacted by years of bad posture.
