Stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise, are the three major causes of high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease and stroke if not managed properly. In order to stay healthy, people need to make lifestyle changes and get help where they can. One way to relieve stress and decrease blood pressure is with chiropractic adjustments. Some proven benefits of chiropractic adjustments are pain relief, posture adjustments, and improved nerve communication. Two recent studies have shown evidence suggesting that specific chiropractic adjustments can lower anxiety and blood pressure.

In the first study, the chiropractor adjusted the Atlas vertebra, which is the oval-shaped bone at the top of the spine. The treated patients had significantly decreased blood pressure compared to the placebo treatment. Those who received the placebo treatment had no change in their blood pressure. The lead researcher said, “This procedure has the effect of not one, but two blood-pressure medications given in combination.” While more research is required, these results show positive effects from chiropractic adjustments.

In the second study, chiropractic adjustments were made to the thoracic spine (T1-T5). The blood pressure of treated patients and placebo patients was measured before and after their treatment. The results indicate that blood pressure was decreased significantly by the thoracic spine adjustments. The patients who received placebo treatments showed no change in blood pressure.

More research is being done to discover more benefits of chiropractic adjustments. Many benefits have already been proven, and people are having their quality of life improved by receiving treatment.
