Despite a warmer than usual start, winter has finally caught up with the Lexington area. But despite excitement from outdoor winter sports enthusiasts, cold temperatures and precipitation pose potentially dangerous risks for those braving the elements. A hard bounce on a sled or snowboard, or a slip and fall on icy steps can cause a subluxation that may require chiropractic care. Subluxation is a slight misalignment of vertebrae that contributes to a number of physical and chemical stresses on the body because vertebrae cause irritation to spinal nerves. As a result, these nerves cannot correctly transmit or interpret signals that travel through them.

Subluxations usually include the follow components:

Chiropractors are trained in a variety of adjustment techniques to treat subluxations. Some of these are done manually while others require specialized equipment and instruments. The cause and severity of the subluxation as well as other health factors determine which treatment is best. Generally speaking, most chiropractors include a spinal adjustment as part of the chiropractic care. With this procedure, a chiropractor provides manual force using his or her hands to restore alignment to the vertebrae. These adjustments are painless and in many instances, patients feel immediate relief.

The biggest danger with subluxations is that they can go undetected for a long time. Fortunately, chiropractors are health professionals trained to detect and correct subluxations. Contact us to learn more about how we can locate these misalignments and effectively correct them. We want to help realign your spine and return your body to its optimum health.
