One of the most frustrating injuries a person can have is an injury to the ribs. Whether you bruise your ribs or actually fracture one or more ribs the pain is intense and persistent. Every breath you take reminds you that your ribs hurt. You may even start to take more shallow breaths to try to avoid the painful sensation of irritating your injured ribs.

However, restricted breathing can bring along other kids of problems like pneumonia. If you think breathing with bruised or broken ribs is painful, just imagine a persistent cough with a misaligned or injured rib.

Unfortunately, when you go to the doctor with an injury to your ribs, they won't do much for you. They can confirm a fracture through an x-ray or CT scan. They can check that you didn't also injure your lungs, spleen or other organs, but they aren't going to do anything to help your ribs heal more quickly. They will simply give you pain medication and ask you to wait it out.

If doing nothing for your injured ribs is frustrating, we can offer you chiropractic care for ribs. Your rib pain may be due to a rib that is out of alignment. This can happen from pregnancy, an injury or a persistent cough. Manual adjustments and posture exercises can correct the problem and keep it from recurring. If your rib is broken, a chiropractor can monitor your healing to make sure that the rib is properly aligned as it is healing to prevent further problems.
