Whether you're a full-time athlete or spend most of your time sitting on the couch, there are plenty of advantages to improving your strength and balance. If you've experienced back problems or other issues, you may find a significant improvement in your body when you choose to focus on strength and stability. Other benefits include:
- Improvements in posture
- Enhanced athletic performance
- Safer movement throughout your day
- Decreased likelihood of injury
When your core strength and balance is poor, you may struggle with completing everyday activities without pain. As your strength and balance improve, you'll discover a freedom that you don't even recognize!
There are several basic exercises you can perform to enhance your core strength and enjoy the benefits of more movement. Try:
Walking regularly. Those 10,000 recommended steps per day may seem like they take forever, but they're great for improving your core strength! Look for opportunities to add steps, whether it's taking the stairs or parking in the back of a parking lot instead of looking for the closest spot.
Use correct posture. If you're used to slumping, it may not feel natural at first. With repetition, however, you'll convince your body that sitting up straight is the right thing to do--and improve your core while you do it.
Try balance training exercises, including using a ball for sit-ups, leg raises, crunches, and more.
Use simple weight training techniques that focus on the whole body. Aim to exercise at least three times per week for the best results.
It's not easy to fix balance and stability issues, especially if you're struggling to find the time to hit the gym or even work out in the comfort of your own home. As your strength and balance improve, however, you'll discover that even everyday activity becomes easier. It's well worth the time and effort that you'll put in.
