Few fields of medical practice are as misunderstood by the general public as that of chiropractic care. Chiropractic medicine is generally perceived as just something you resort to after an auto accident or injury rather than as a serious field of medical practice. Unfortunately, this misconception can cause needless suffering that could be easily treated by a chiropractor.
The perception of chiropractic medicine is far from the reality. Chiropractic medicine can offer natural, drug-free healing from injury or from painful, chronic conditions such as migraines, without the use of drugs or invasive surgery.
While chiropractic medicine is often used in the treatment of back, spinal, or other injuries, it has a value that goes far beyond those areas. At its heart, chiropractic medicine is about helping the patient heal naturally and holistically, without dangerous and potentially addictive painkillers.
Not only does chiropractic medicine eschew the use of the painkillers or other drugs, but it concentrates on treating not just the pain itself, but the patient as a whole. While a traditional doctor would focus on masking the pain from your back or other injury with drugs or attempt to treat it with invasive surgery, a chiropractor would focus on finding the root cause of your pain and curing it using holistic, whole-body medical techniques such as gentle body manipulation.
A patient’s first visit to a chiropractor will include not only a series of medical tests, such as x-rays, and a through physical examination, but also an in-debt personal consultation with their practitioner to gauge not only the specific condition for which the patient is seeking care but also their overall health. Special attention will be paid to the patient’s spinal alignment, due to the fact that spinal alignment issues are often a key root cause of many of the issues that lead patients to seek out chiropractic care.
The information gained from this examination will then be used to create a comprehensive treatment plan tailored specially for the patient. This treatment plan may include such things as spinal realignment, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, or massage. No drugs will be used or prescribed, and the body will be allowed to heal naturally.
For many patients, chiropractic medicine offers lasting, natural relief.
