Frequent, recurring or chronic chest pain can be a symptom of serious cardio-vascular or heart problems, up to and including a possible heart attack. For this reason, it is critically important than anyone suffering chest pains seek immediate medical aid to rule out any possible cardiac problems. However, once you have ruled out possible heart problems as the source of your chest pains, your next step should be to see a chiropractor.

Chest pains can often be related to problems with the musculature of the chest. Quite often these problems are caused by issues with the pectoralis minor, which runs down the front of the chest and connects the scapula with the upper ribcage. Hidden underneath the major upper chest muscles, or pectoralis major, this muscle plays a major role in forward rotation of the shoulder and can often become injured. A strain or tendonitis of this muscle can closely mimic the symptoms of angina, or chest pains caused by insufficient blood supply to the muscles of the heart. Both injury to this muscle and angina share common symptoms such as chest pain radiating down into the left arm.

Physical therapy, ultrasound and deep-tissue massage are among the many effective methods your chiropractor can use to relieve this condition.

However, the most common non-cardiac reason for chest pains is a misalignment of the joints in your spine, or a damaged joint in your spine or ribcage. Quite often, a spinal vertebrae or rib has been displaced from its proper alignment, which can cause considerable chest pain.

Your chiropractor should be able to quickly diagnose the cause of your pain and provide a treatment plan to put you back on track to wellness. Most importantly, your chiropractor will be able to provide relief without resorting to surgery or harmful drugs.
